An AI interview is a technical assessment conducted by an AI system instead of a human interviewer. The candidate codes, designs systems, and answers follow-up questions in a live session, while the AI adapts its questions to their answers and produces a structured skill report at the end.

How an AI interview session works
A typical session runs 45 to 90 minutes in the browser, with nothing to install:
- Live coding. The candidate solves problems that mirror real work, such as implementing a feature against an API or building a rate limiter, in a real editor with real execution.
- Adaptive questioning. The AI probes each answer. A candidate who answers well gets harder follow-ups; one who struggles gets questions that map the edges of their knowledge. No two sessions are identical, which makes rehearsed answers nearly useless.
- System design conversation. The AI asks the candidate to design a system and then pressure-tests the choices: why this database, what happens at 10x load, where does this break?
- Debugging. The candidate is handed realistically broken code, because reading and fixing code is most of a working engineer’s day.
The output is not a pass/fail flag but a per-concept skill report: which concepts the candidate knows at expert depth, which at working depth, and which are gaps.
What about cheating?
Serious platforms pair the interview with browser-based proctoring: webcam presence verification, focus and tab monitoring, copy-paste detection, and flagging of off-screen help, each with a timestamped evidence trail a human can review. Cheating is not impossible, but it is far harder than on a take-home test, which candidates can outsource entirely.
